"The Orange and Maroon Effect" - NCSI Supports Virginia Tech
Columbia, MD (April 19, 2007) To honor the Virginia Tech shooting victims and their friends and families, John Skipper, NCSI’s Chief Executive Officer, announced today that NCSI staff members will join people from across the nation and world on Friday, April 20, in a day of mourning as called for by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. “We will demonstrate our solidarity and support of the Hokie Nation by wearing orange and maroon and holding a memorial service at our headquarters offices,” he said.
“We encourage anyone who has been affected by these senseless acts of violence to channel their energy and resources to supporting the victims and their families by joining the NCSI staff in contributing to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund,” said Mr. Skipper in an internal message to NCSI’s 50+ employees.
Megan Parmenter, NCSI’s Executive Director, Corporate Events and Operations, noted that the “Orange and maroon effect” slogan was coined at Virginia Tech by a former NCSI employee, Terran Poter, while she was a student at Virginia Tech. “Our Virginia Tech roots are very deep at NCSI,” said Ms. Parmenter, “The owners are alumni as well as the CFO and head of BD, plus several other employees.” We are suffering on a very personal level because of the tragedy that occurred on Monday in Blacksburg.”
At Mr. Skipper’s direction, a VT mourning ribbon has been placed on the NCSI home page, www.ncsi.com, with a link to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.
