2007 DCGS Worldwide Conference and Expo in Norfolk on 3 -5 April
Norfolk, VA (January 17, 2007) After a 3-year hiatus, the US Joint Forces Command supported DCGS Worldwide Conference is back on the schedule for 3-5 April 2007, in Norfolk, VA at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. For the first time, DCGS Worldwide will feature emerging technology exhibits showcasing communications, intelligence and networking capabilities designed to aid operating forces in accomplishing their warfighting missions.
Over the past five years the need to quickly push actionable intelligence down to the first tactical mile has become critical. There have been many documented instances where the rapid dissemination of vital information helped save troops' lives and facilitated positive tactical, if not strategic, outcomes. But, unfortunately, these instances are not yet as common as they could be. The ultimate operational objective is to provide the brave men and women with boots on the ground with access to real-time, accurate, uncomplicated, pertinent information.
Of the myriad programs and systems designed to streamline intelligence efforts and integrate Intel with ops, few show more promise at the moment than DCGS (Distributed Common Ground System). Hence the focus (increased resource allocations) it is receiving from the highest levelsUSD(I)on down.
The primary supporter of this year's DCGS Worldwide Conference, USJFCOM's ISR Transformation Division, sees this year's meeting and expo as a critical element in the effort to move the DCGS program forward. Although no topic of discussion will be off limits (subject to security constraints), the focus will be on how to best deliver the net-centric ISR enterprise to the warfighter, what lessons have been learned and how can we best exploit the knowledge we have, what persistent ISR implies for DCGS, industry perspectives on DCGS, and how to deal with wide-area surveillance platforms and large data, among many others.
Kevin Meiners, Acting Deputy Under Secretary Defense Military Intelligence, will join Maxie McFarland, Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence US Army Training and Doctrine Command in keynoting the event. Some of the panel discussions will be moderated by Captain Kevin Frank, Intelligence Director (J2), USJFCOM, Brigadier General (Select) James O. Poss, Director of Intelligence, Headquarters Air Combat Command and Colonel Robert Montgomery, Director, Implementation, Assessment, & Execution, OSD OUSD(I).
"The 2007 DCGS Worldwide Conference is an important element in the efforts to move the DCGS program forward. Public and private sector DCGS stakeholders and contributors are encouraged to take part in this dialogue" said Mr. Christopher Jackson, USJFCOM.
The goal of finding the answers that we don't have will most quickly be achieved with a broad spectrum of participation. This conference and the evolution of DCGS in general provide rare opportunities for contributors to influence and shape the objectives of DoD solution set.
